The mission of The Oaks Baptist Church youth group is to proclaim Jesus as Lord and Savior to all people around us; lead by example for younger individuals; exhibit Christian character in our schools; and to be an accepting, unified group who welcomes all people to our church by loving God, loving others, and loving ourselves.
Here at The Oaks, we believe that our youth are our future. I Timothy 4:12 says, "Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith, and in purity." Believing this statement, our youth are encouraged to serve our community, our nation, and our world. They are given the opportunity to lead in various ways. Our Youth lead in Sunday worship services, VBS, community outreach, mission trips, etc. We have a variety of ways youth can get involved in worship and in service. Our youth program consists of grades 6-12, and EVERYONE is invited!
Summer is a time when youth groups thrive! There are so many opportunities for youth to get involved at The Oaks during the Summer of 2009! We will be doing mission work on St.SimonsIsland, in coastal Mississippi, and right here in Toombs County. We will also have fun activities and special worship services. To see our Summer schedule, go to the calendar under the news and events heading of our homepage.
"Let us not give up the habit of meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another- and all the more as you see the Day approaching." Hebrews 10:25
At The Oaks, we believe that Christian fellowship is a key factor in one's relationship with Christ. We urge our youth to fellowship with one another, encourage each other, and also to lift each other up in prayer. Come join us at The Edge, The Gathering, or in Sunday school! We would love to have you!
Come join us for the Edge on Wednesday nights at 6:00 pm. We get together for about an hour and a half, play games, talk, hang out, and discuss what God is doing in our lives. We have a short devotional that connects to the everyday lives of teenagers. We pray for each other, what's going on in our lives, and what's going on in the lives of others. If you're looking for something to do on Wednesday nights, The Edge is a great place to be!
The Gathering is Sunday nights at 6:00 pm. This is an informal worship service where we gather together, worship God through music, prayer, reading scripture, and just fellowshipping together. Come join us as we dig in God's word for answers to questions that teenagers deal with and as we encourage each other to constantly grow in our Christian walk. Come worship with other youth your age and become apart of a worship service that is designed for teenagers.
Jeremiah 29:11 says, "For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'" On Sunday mornings at 9:45 am, we are trying to figure out God's plans for us. Sunday school at The Oaks is a more formal Bible study. We come together to dig into God's word in hopes of finding out his purpose for our lives. We discuss scripture and how it relates to us. We worship together in order to become closer to our Creator.
