The Greatest Temptation

Hello faithful readers,
Glad to be back with you this week. Two quick reminders:
The Sonlight Choir from FBC Gainesville, GA will be here tonight for a great concert. It begins at 7. Please come and worship God with us through great music tonight.

Don't forget, VBS is coming to The Oaks June 10-14 and we have a lot of work to do. It will be a great week. I cannot wait to see the musical, "Fish Tales" on Thursday night, June 14, at 7 PM. Please make every effort to come and support our kids.

Now, a brief thought about our sermon Sunday. It is Genesis 3:1-21, "The Fall of Humanity" aka, "When Eve messed up," aka, "Why women shouldn't speak." Hahaha
Just some terrible humor there to say this story has been poorly interpreted for centuries as a way to blame today's problems on a specific person. Let's be honest, each of us have sinned. While Eve did eat from the tree, Adam did too. In fact, Adam stood by and did nothing in spite of hearing the direct proclamation from God to not eat of the Tree. Who is more at fault? Does it matter?

The reality is that the greatest temptation had nothing to do with the fruit...the greatest temptation is found in verse 5. Read that verse and then ask yourself the question, don't we want the same?

Think about this as you prepare your heart for worship this week. May we trust in God's goodness, His character, His grace, and most importantly, His forgiveness.

Have a great week,
Josh

I think verse 5 was a simple lie from Satan, the tree it self most probably had no power what so ever, it was a loss of innocents because of disobedience, anytime we are disobedient to what God has told us to or not to do we automatically began to separated ourselves from Him just as Adam and Eve tried to hide from Him because of what they had done. We are not God and will never be. The temptation to think we can be IS the real temptation, that is where the holier than thou attitude comes from, to think we have the qualifications to be judge and jury. The more disobedient we are the smaller God becomes in our lives, the bigger we become in our own eyes, I can only pray that in my life that I don't get distracted with temptation, Beth Moore said at a conference I went to that we have to have a strong hold on God, that means to hold on so tight that not even a piece of paper can get between, and isn't it wonderful that I don't know everything, every decision and judgement, every blessing and punishment will not be mine to make. all I really need worry about is my relationship with God and listen when he speaks to me about my life, all the while keeping my strong hold.
