Taking Personal Responsibility

Dear Church Family,

It has been far too long since we've chatted this way, but as my title implies, I will tell you I am solely responsible. I apologize for not posting more frequently, but hopefully I'll get back on the wagon and back in the good graces of Dr. Lucy Green soon.

In regards to my sermon Sunday, I will be preaching from Jeremiah 31:27-34. This is perhaps the most important piece of scripture in the whole book because while the people are in exile, God makes a promise that still matters to us today. What was this promise? It was the promise of a new covenant brought forth in Jesus Christ.

The covenant has two important parts: one is that each person is responsible for his/her sin, and two, each person will have God's spirit dwelling in them.

I don't want to give too much away, but I'll say this...the covenant sounds really good until we begin to figure what it means to us. When we walk down that road, we understand just how demanding it can be. It is demanding because it means commitment--something most of us are in short supply of these days.

So I ask you to come with an open mind and an open heart Sunday. Be prepared to be challenged, but also comforted in the knowledge that you are loved, and that is enough.

See you Sunday,
Josh
