Hitting the snooze button

Hello all,

I am convinced that one of the greatest inventions in the history of the world is the snooze button on the alarm clock. Pushing that button gives us 7-9 minutes of additional, peaceful sleep before that dreaded alarm clock buzzes again and our day begins. Even as a morning person, I often push that button more than once before I rise from the bed. To be honest, pushing that button is not a good habit to fall into because most often, we just need to wake up and get moving.

My best friend and college roommate, Dave, experienced just how serious this issue could be when he could not get out of bed on time for an early class his last semester of college. He slept so hard, that he would literally sleep through 2 alarms. His alarm clocks were so loud, they would wake me up from across the apartment. I would get up, go bang on his door, walk in, turn them off and then shake him awake. I did this for him just about every day. The problem was, however, that I was in class before him on a couple of days so I would leave and he was left on his own. That left him with the responsiblity of getting up, which he simply could not do.

As a result, he missed a number of classes...enough in fact that he missed almost as many as he attended, which resulted in a failing grade. Dave went to talk to his professor and that professor gave him a choice...fail his class and delay his graduation, or write a term paper in addition to making up all the work he had missed. Dave wrote it, and passed that class by the skin of his teeth.

The sermon for this Sunday is found in Romans 13:8-14. Paul implores the church at Rome to wake up and begin living the Christian life in a meaningful way.

Paul's message to that church is a message for us... it is time for us, as a church and as individual Christians, to wake up. We have been far too slothful. Instead of being faithful, we have been hitting the snooze button on our faith and on our witness for Christ.

I am not sure what God is calling you to, but I beg you to get out of your comfortable cocoon, and get moving. While it is day, may we work fervently in the field of faith and rest easy at night knowing we have done all we could do to serve the Savior.

My prayer is that we never have to live with the regret of hitting the snooze button, missing out on opportunities to serve the Lord.

Wake Up! The world desperately needs you.

In His Love,
Josh

Sports Corner:
As a new wrinkle to the sports corner, I have decided predict the outcome of the games in which our local teams are playing. If you have any games or any teams to consider, let me know in our comments section and I will add that team to our rotation.

First off, Ga Tech plays Western Carolina on Thursday night. This is not much more than a glorified scrimmage...Tech big by 3 touchdowns, or they should be ashamed.

Secondly, we have Georgia Southern playing Samford in Birmingham--Ga Southern wins behind the fleet feet of Jaybo Shaw by 10 points, perhaps more.

As you know, UGA is playing Boise State in the GA Dome Saturday night. Just because you go to the game does not mean you are allowed to miss church :)

This is an incredible opportunity for both teams to make a statement this season. Boise is favored by 3.5, but I am taking the DAWGS in an upset. This game will be close, but ultimately, the size of UGA's lines win out. Blair Walsh kicks a field goal late to win.

Josh I hate to tell you but when that little girl gets here she will be louder than any alarm clock that you have ever had, and she will not have a snooze button either.

Love ya'll
