Glad to be back with you this week. Don't forget, we have church clean up day this Saturday, July 28th at 8 am as we prepare for Homecoming on August 5th.
We have read in the paper the tragic saga of Penn State University and their alleged cover up of sexual abuse. It has been called the greatest sports scandal in history and I tend to agree. How could this go on? Why didn't anyone say anything? And for Joe Paterno, a coach who had done so much at that university, how could he fall so far from grace?
I want us to recognize that we too can fall by making one bad decision...that is why it is essential for us to guard ourselves against such mistakes now, before we make them.
My sermon Sunday centers around another scandal: David and Bathsheeba, 2 Samuel 11:1-26. I will be showing you some essential steps to take to protect us from falling as far as David did with his sinful "indiscretion."
Read the scripture and consider these thoughts: Where was David complacent? How should we respond when we face temptation? What would have happened if just one person would have told David no? What could David have done to prevent his mistakes from snow balling as they did?
Thanks for reading, and look for the sports corner to come back in a few weeks.
Have a great week,
