Glad to be back at it once again. As you know, I will be speaking from the book of James over the next few weeks. This week, our text is James 2:1-17. James is so straight forward. He reminds me of Amos in the OT the way he lays it out for readers.
James wants us to know that it is not okay for us to be content with a lax faith. Instead, he demands that we have a vibrant faith. He demands that we not only consider what we believe, but that we put our beliefs into practice. (Which reminds me...we have an opportunity to do this Saturday September 15th on our Community Service day. Please be here at 8 AM to serve others--shameless plug!!!).
To be frank, faith without works is dead and tragically, too many people are content with a dead faith. It is time for us as a people of God to resurrect our commitment to service by sharing tangible acts of grace with others. Please consider your faith today. Is it exuberant, or is it on life support?
Sports Corner (4-0)
Hello sports fans, it does not get any better than 4-0. What a great start...let's do it again!
By the way, the comment section is open if you choose to list your own picks...we ought to have a contest and see who can beat the great prognosticator. Done and done! Let's start this week...whoever has the best record/most wins, wins a prize to be determined later.
UGA vs Missouri
UGA welcomes the newest member of the SEC on Saturday. The only problem, they have to go to Missouri to do it. The Tigers are a formidable foe...they have a super offense. UGA looked tepid at times vs Buffalo last week, but they seem to be onto something with those young backs, Todd Gurley and Keith Marshall. The line is 2 for UGA. Close Game!!! UGA wins late...33-27.
GT vs Presbyterian Blue Hose
Really? Really? GT took a painful loss to VT last week. Their offense was not impressive whatsoever. Expect that to change vs lowly Presbyterian. GT will run for day (and nights too). GT wins big--4 td's at least.
GSU vs. Citadel in Charleston
Two good teams who love to run the ball. This could go either way, but I think GSU has enough to pull away in the end. Just need to see GSU complete a pass (didn't do it last week 0-8). GSU pulls away in the 3rd and never looks back. Wins by 2 TD's
Game of the Week...
Florida vs Texas A&M
This is the other new face in the SEC (Texas A&M). UF gets introduced to the 12th man. Great game...great atmosphere, and Game Day is there. Who wins? (Rule 371--Go with the Home team in a pick 'em). Texas A&M wins by 7.
Atlanta Falcons vs. KC Chiefs
Falcons have some question marks coming into the season. Can they get an adequate pass rush? Who will start on the Offensive Line? Can they take the next step? The answer to the last question is yes...and they start Sunday. Falcons go into Arrowhead and win 23-17.
Don't forget, make your picks and win a prize if and only if, you can beat the great prognosticator!!!
