Thanks for reading. I will not be here this weekend. I am going to be away at the Mercer Preaching Consultation at St. Simons. Now I know that you might be thinking, Josh is on vacation...not so fast my friends. I will be learning about preaching from one of the very best in the field, Dr. Luke Timothy Johnson, the Robert W. Woodruff Professor of New Testament and Christian Origins at Emory University. We will be studying Hebrews (not sure why anyone would choose that for a featured series of lectures). With that said, if I preach on Hebrews for a while, I guess you know where I got the material from. It is also a great time to reconnect with many of my friends/professors from seminary and to meet other pastors in the state. (I may even ask one of them to do a revival for us soon.)
I was so excited about our crowd Wednesday night. We had 55 sign up for supper, and even more than that came. Every chair in the adult Bible study was full; what a gift! Furthermore, I was thrilled with the crowd last Sunday AM as well. In case you did not know, we have added more chairs to our sanctuary and it seems like we will be adding more in the future. What a great problem to have!
More than anything, I want to take this opportunity to say thank you for being who you are and allowing me to serve here. Ginger, Ella, and I are so appreciative of your kindness to us. We could not ask for a kinder church family.
Please be here Sunday and support our very own Randy Callahan as he brings the message. He will do a great job, just like always.
Have a great weekend, and I will see you next Wednesday night.
In His Peace,
Sports Corner (3-1) this week, (10-3 overall)
I guess no one wants the hammer to fall on them...I can't find anyone to make picks with me/against me. I promise you, the reward will be worth it if you try.
UGA vs Vanderbilt
UGA has looked good the last few weeks (3-0), but they will be tested Saturday night. If you remember, UGA squeaked out a win vs the Commodores last year that ended in some words exchanged by the opposing coaches UGA's Todd Grantham and Vandy's James Franklin. While it will be a hard fought SEC game, UGA will beat Vandy at home by 14.
GT vs. Miami
GT versus the U is always a tough game to call. I am not sure who Miami is this year, or GT for that matter. The U got trounced by K State last week, and GT put a beating on UVA (who saw that coming?) GT has Miami at home. It will really put the U to the test, but it seems as if the U is laying in the weeds. This is a put up/shut up game for both and Bobby Dodd will be rocking (as loud as a 55,000 seat stadium can sound). Upset Pick...Miami surprises GT and wins in a tight contest by 6.
GSU vs. Elon (Sorry, I blew this one last week. I forgot GSU was off..) GSU wins handily.
Featured College game of the week? Michigan vs. Notre Dame
This one is a barn burner every year. Michigan has dynamic QB Denard Robinson...and ND has a great young QB Golson. The game is in South Bend...that has to count for something. I think ND can run the ball against Michigan D and that makes the difference. ND wins a close one, by 3
Atlanta Falcons vs. SD Chargers
So...I picked against the Falcons b/c I thought they were on the road last week (they weren't). This week, they are. The Birds can pass efficiently, but cannot run the ball nor stop the run. As much as it pains me, SD wins by 10.
Round up of picks: UGA, U, GSU, ND, and SD.
